Indian Open – Jazz on top form – best finish so far!

Jazz

As the Hero Indian Open came to a close on Sunday we were left with a hero of our own as Jazz Janewattananond recorded his best finish this season.

Our Tour pro finished in a tie for 15th with a total of eight under par for the tournament. An amazing achievement. He finished ahead of the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Padraig Harrington and last week’s winner, Scott Hend.

Jazz’s golf was pretty consistent throughout the course of the tournament. He posted under par totals for each day of play. The Thursday saw Jazz record a one under par 71 which included four birdies. He improved on the Friday with a three under par total of 69. Much of this was due to the dismembering of the back nine where he was four under at the turn. Key to that success was taking advantage of the par fives. At the halfway stage our young pro had made the cut comfortably at four under.

As the weekend’s play was ready to kick off Jazz was well placed to have a serious look at being victorious. He knows the course very well for being so young and it seems to form a perfect relationship with his game. With this in mind, Jazz stepped up on the first tee and rattled away a drive right down the centre of the par five. His next shot was magnificent, reaching the green in two to set up a realistic eagle opportunity. The putt didn’t seem to phase Jazz and before you knew it he had sank it into darkness. A brilliant eagle three. He went along steadily during the course of the round after the explosive start recording two birdies and two bogeys. This saw him with a two under 70 and a total of six under par. Going into the final day he was 19th and only four back from third place.
The first nine holes of Jazz’s Sunday were ones to forget and we’ll just leave it at that. Having it all to do on the back nine it was something of difficult task. Not for Jazz however. If there was anything that was deserving of his play all week it was to make this miraculous turnaround. Birdie, eagle, birdie and then birdie, birdie to close out the competition is something the world’s best would bite your hand off for. The eagle seemed to spur on Jazz even more to get back up the leaderboard and thats just what he did. A finish like that would make it even more sweet for the Thai. Whilst he may not have been victorious there was a huge amount of positives to take away from the week. It was his best finish since May of last year and as aforementioned, his best result of 2016. Jazz also took away his biggest cheque of his career, a great moment for him as he continues to flourish.

From everyone at Bunker Mentality we congratulate Jazz on a magnificent performance and can’t wait to see him next time out.
